Dear Friends

Greetings from CCI!

As you know it is now less than three months to go until our conference, Vatican 2 + 50: A Cardijn Perspective to be held at Communication Foundatnio for Asia, Manila from 10-14 October 2012.

1. Participation

Already, we have more than 40 people enrolled for the event.

And we have been working hard behind the scenes to prepare the conference.

You can see the draft program here.

If you still have not filled out a registration form, please click here and download the form to register and send.

If you know others who are interested to participate, please encourage to finalise their arrangements now.

2. Preparation

In keeping with the Cardijn method, we are currently preparing a small enquiry that we ask participants to work in your own local communities and networks to find out what people understand about Vatican II today.

We will email you this enquiry in our next newsletter next week.

3. Cardijn @ Vatican II

We now have a lot of Cardijn's own documents that he prepared for Vatican II available for study.

You can find some of the most important documents here.

Please take the time to read one document per week in preparation for our event.

Let us all start together by reading The Coming Council written by Cardijn soon after Pope John XXIII announced the Council in 1959.

4. Key Note Speaker: Fr Bonnie Mendes

We will have a number of prominent speakers at our conference.

This week we would like to introduce you to Fr Bonnie Mendes, who founded the YCW in Pakistan in 1997.

Fr Mendes was also the founder of Pakistan's National Commission for Justice and Peace.

He was also previously regional coordinator for Caritas Asia.

5. Fundraising

Together with Juanito Penequito, Vilma Paghabusan and our host team in Manila, we have been working hard to raise funds for this program but we still face many challenges.

So far we have not received any outside assistance from any other organisation.

We are asking each participant in your own home town and country to make a special effort to assist us with this fundraising task.

Are you able to organise a local fundraising event to assist us?

Could you help us find sponsors for the event?

Do let us know how you could help.

6. Cardijn Anniversary 24 July

Please, don't forget to commemorate the anniversary of Cardijn's death on 24 July 1967 - 45 years ago this week.

Meanwhile, let's all keep working together.

Looking forward to meeting you in October.
